Laboratory for Probability Theory and Computer Statistics

Head: Dr. (DSc) of Phys. and Math., Professor Pavlov, Yuri L.

Major research trends

  • theoretical study in the field of mathematics and applied statistics;
  • elaboration of mathematical modelling software using statistical methods;
  • use of methods and software for mathematical modelling in solving various scientific-research problems.
  • Research

    Theoretical research resulted in the development of probability methods of discrete mathematics, regression analysis, logical-algebraic methods, in the elaboration of some algorithms for amplifying statistical hypotheses. Research of the methods of statistical software intellectualization is carried out. Fundamentals of the theory of stochastic forests presented in the monograph "Random forests" (Ju. L. Pavlov, 1996, in Russian) were developed.

    The obtained results formed the basis for statistical data analysis software, worked out for different computer generations, and are now being widely used in KRC and in other organizations.

    In cooperation with all KRC institutes hundreds of mathematical models for particular nature, economic and social objects (the largest of which are forest biocenoses, Kostomuksha iron ore deposit) have been developed.
