A complex of problems related to creation of the information website "Natural resources of Karelia" is considered. The aims and background for the website development have been formulated. XML technologies and special extensions for representation of both textual and cartographic information have been selected as the technological basis. The procedure for creating the software and preparing the content, including problems of generating and using ontologies and metadata, is explained.
